  1. Loking at this symbol to me it doesn’t represent anything but a book with AL initials on it. I really hope this isn’t used anywhere. As someone who has struggled with dyslexia until the age of 15 I know that many dyslexics long for something to relate to and feel understood. My opinion is that this symbol contradicts any hard work that certain organisations have put in over the years to help combat the social and academic exclusion that people with learning difficulties face on a day to day basis.

  2. I agree with the first comment. It just doesn’t make me think of dyslexia.

Maybe a picture of a child climbing a really long steep staircase with a stack of books at the top.

  3. Thank you for all of the comments

This symbol is only one of the ideas that I would like to see replace the wheelchair symbol. In Canada we are called Learning Disabled. I prefer to be called a person with an alternative learning style that has the ability think and process information Three Dimensionally.

Please if you have a better idea for a universal symbol that describes my way of learning I would love to see it. I have found that putting out one idea brings on a flood of new ideas from others. After all the definition of an artist is to make thing more beautiful! I look forward to see everyone’s ideas and then maybe we can vote on the one we like best?

I must say that the Pollyanna inside of me feels a little sad that we are so quick to disapprove yet so slow to commend the effort. I guess that this is to be expected when you put yourself out on the web for all to comment.
