Why Starfish
Making the decision to create this book was easy because I have a group of people that helped me to believe in myself. Keeping with the fish page I will call them my Starfish.
These are images of the people who have helped me to believe that my dreams were worth making a reality. After simply telling them my ideas, they have asked me how they could help. What a magnificent way of gathering moral support!
My motto is “Do not be afraid to ask anyone if the occasion arises and to imagine how it would feel if they asked me”.
At a session I attended on low self-esteem, the facilitator said one thing that really impressed me and stayed in my mind. He said that when you were feeling at the very bottom of the pit and you believed that you would never be able to crawl your way out, try to think of one person in the world who liked you at any point in your life. He suggested that even if it was only one person for even a moment or if it had happened a long time back in the past, to think of them and why they liked you. This simple thing was what got me back up on my feet and out of my pit. Since then, I have discovered many people who like me and even a few who love me.
Over time I have collected this amazing group of people who liked me and believed in me. They really helped me to start feeling better about myself. It is like having a safety net for those awful times when you don’t have the strength to hold yourself up. I see my people as a protective shell of positive power. This simple tool has become my best method of survival. Over time I have learned to apply it to all of my endeavors. It is like watching a ball of snow rolling down a hill on its own momentum, accumulating size and power as it makes its way forward.
I have found that I can ask for support from anyone and everyone, no matter who they are, and I have been pleasantly surprised to hear the answer “yes” most of the time (and even the odd wow!) This page was created with the help of a scribe.
A special thank you to all of my Starfish Tina H. McInerney
